Muscat: Fatal road accidents continue to be a cause for concern for the authorities as 70 people were killed and 956 others injured in 638 road accidents in the first month of the year.

According to statistics released by the Royal Oman Police (ROP), the Northern Batinah region recorded 12 fatalities last month, followed by 10 fatalities in Northern Sharqiyah, and nine fatalities each in the Dhofar and Southern Batinah regions.

There were 296 cases of collision between vehicles, 166 instances of vehicles crashing against stationary objects, 89 cases of people being hit by vehicles, and 87 cases of vehicles overturning on the road.
