Dubai: Seven people have been named and shamed in Oman for violating the COVID-19 precautions of the Supreme Committee in a number of the Sultanate’s Governorates, local media reported.

The Sultanate’s Public Prosecution said in a statement, “On October 26-28, 2020, the primary courts in a number of the Sultanate’s governorates issued a number of criminal judgments against violators of the decisions of the Supreme Committee.

“The Public Prosecution investigated seven people who violated the ban on movement and were not wearing masks, and not adhering to home quarantine, and as a result, they were referred to the competent courts, and they were sentenced to sentences ranging between six months imprisonment and a fine of OMR 1,000, with the foreign accused being deported from the country,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) has arrested a person after he was caught driving under the influence of alcohol during the movement ban period.

The Public Prosecution in a statement issued said: “The court of first instance in Muscat convicted an accused person for not adhering to the procedures and measures established to prevent the spread of infection, as he was caught driving his vehicle under the influence of alcohol during movement ban hours.”

“The court ruled a six-month prison sentence and a fine of OMR 800, along with revoking the driving licence for a period of 6 months,“ PP added.
