Ruby embroiled in war of words with Kuwaiti MP

This came on the heels of a statement by Barrad in which he said the singer has become famous by "shaking her bottom", it was reported here.

A war of words broke out last week between Kuwaiti Islamist MP Awad Barrad and Egyptian singer Ruby.

Ruby thinks the MP should be more concerned with affairs of state than with her ‘assets'.

In reply, Ruby said, "Barrad, who is an MP, must pay more attention to problems of his people, instead of my assets."

Meanwhile, Ruby, whose real name is Rania Hussain, denied knowledge of reports in a Kuwaiti daily, Al Watan, which said the Ministry of Information had refused to allow her to take part in a show in Kuwait during Eid Al Fitr holidays.

She added she had no idea about any concert and so far has not been contacted by anyone.

Barrad made this statement while objecting to holding singing concerts in Kuwait during Ramadan. He insisted on the authorities following all regulations of restricting concerts during the holy month.

Though many Kuwaiti MPs have objected to hosting Ruby in Kuwait, Barrad also remarked that the status of singing had fallen to new lows becoming dependent on a singer showing off her charms.

"I don't know what makes this MP, who should be interested in people's cases and concerns, interested in my assets [bottom]," wondered Ruby. "How does he know that my assets have pushed my career forward?" she was quoted as saying.

Ruby is one of the controversial singers in the Arab world. Many criticise her revealing clothes and dance movements but this has not deterred the lithe singer. "Ruby is back with a new song directed again by Sherif Sabri," said a statement posted on a web site.
