Manama: Police in Kuwait City are looking for the parents of a newborn boy who was found abandoned near Marina fields.

The baby was taken to Mubarak Hospital while the police have launched an investigation, Al Aan news portal reported on Wednesday.

Under Kuwait's regulations, abandoned babies who are not adopted go to an orphanage where they receive special care from the social affairs ministry and get full citizenship when they grow up.

In Bahrain, the lower criminal court gave a Bahraini woman who aborted her five-month-old foetus and buried it a six-month suspended sentence. The woman, 25, was arrested after a witness who saw her bury the foetus near a beach, alerted the police.

The same court on Tuesday dropped a case against a Bahraini man, 25, for allegedly having sex with a 14-year-old school girl after he married her.
