Kuwait City: Shaikh Sabah Khalid Al Sabah, Kuwaiti foreign minister, will visit the West Bank over the weekend for talks on reconciliation among Palestinian factions, an official said on Wednesday.

The visit will be the first by a senior Kuwaiti official since the Palestinian National Authority was created two decades ago.

“The visit of Shaikh Sabah to Palestine on Sunday comes within the framework of Kuwaiti moves to consolidate joint Arab action,” foreign ministry undersecretary Khalid Al Jarallah was quoted as saying by the official Kuna news agency.

Al Jarallah said the minister will seek to bolster reconciliation between Palestinians, without providing any other details about the visit.

In 2012, the Palestinians reopened their embassy in Kuwait City, 22 years after it was closed over the perceived support of the Palestine Liberation Organisation for Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait.
