Tightened road safety laws to take effect on April 22

Dubai: Kuwait's Ministry of Interior has announced stricter penalties for unauthorised motor vehicle racing and reckless driving on public roads, warning that violators will face fines of up to 150 dinars (Dh1,787) if a settlement order is approved.
In cases where violations escalate to court, offenders could face prison sentences of up to three years, fines as high as 1,000 dinars, or both.
In a statement, the ministry highlighted the dangers of unauthorised racing and reckless gatherings of vehicles, emphasising that such behaviour not only endangers drivers but also poses serious risks to public safety.
The new penalties, which take effect on April 22, is a significant tightening of Kuwait’s traffic regulations
The ministry further highlighted that offenders taken to court could receive sentences ranging from over one year to three years behind bars, along with financial penalties ranging from 600 to 1,000 dinars.
The severity of these punishments signals the government’s zero-tolerance approach toward illegal street racing and traffic violations.
As part of a public awareness campaign, the General Department of Public Relations and Security Media has begun distributing multilingual informational brochures detailing the updated traffic laws.
Additionally, a security source revealed that the Ministry of Interior plans to systematically release a comprehensive list of traffic violations in the coming days, specifying each offense and its corresponding fine.
