Dubai: Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior announced that motorists may now apply window tinting of up to 50 per cent on their vehicles, in a decision aimed at modernising traffic regulations.

The ruling, issued by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Youssef Al Sabah under Decision No. 1398 of 2025, amends provisions of Ministerial Resolution No. 1976/81, which governs the executive regulations of the Traffic Law.

The Ministry raised the allowed tinting level from 30 per cent to 50 per cent, while maintaining safety rules for windshields and banning reflective films. Under the new rules, tinted glass in line with factory specifications is allowed for all vehicle types.

Coloured window films may also be used, provided that the level of tint does not exceed 50 per cent. All vehicle windows can be tinted except the front windshield, which must remain transparent and meet Gulf safety standards. Reflective glass or films, however, continue to be prohibited.

The decision assigns the Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior responsibility for enforcing the regulation, which takes effect immediately following its publication in the Official Gazette.
