Dubai: More than 700 kilograms of expired meat not conforming to the standard specifications have been seized in Kuwait, Al Rai Newspaper reported.

The seizure came as part of random checks conducted by the Mubarak Al Kabeer Governorate Inspection Department of the General Authority for Food and Nutrition.

The Inspection Department emphasised that legal measures including closure of the facility had been taken against three establishments after they were found violating health and safety standards.

The closures of the three facilities comes a few days after Kuwait’s Coronavirus Committee took strict measures to control the spread of the pandemic. The committee has decided to withdraw the licences of any restaurant if caught supplying food to wedding parties, events, and bureaus with banquets, for violating health requirements that prohibit gatherings, Al Qabas daily reported.

According to the paper, the committee has also decided to close any hotel if caught renting halls for any gathering events, adding that the committee decided to activate a hotline, which will start working from next Sunday, to receive reports from citizens and residents about any gatherings that take place in a way that contributes to the spread of the epidemic.
