Cairo: Kuwait confirmed on Sunday 80 new cases of the novel coronavirus, raising the country's overall infections to 1,243 including one death.
The latest cases include one patient who recently travelled to the UK, and 71 others who were in contact with previously infected people, spokesman for the Health Ministry Dr Abdullah Al Sanad said in a media briefing. The eight other cases are being investigated, he added.
The tally includes 29 in intensive care units, 10 of them in critical condition, he said.
A total of 313 people, meanwhile, left institutional quarantine and will undergo 14-day home isolation, Dr Al Sanad said.
Kuwaiti Health Minister Sheikh Basil Al Sabah, earlier Sunday, said that nine more patients have recovered from the ailment, raising to 142 the overall recoveries in the country.
The recovered patients are seven Kuwaitis and two foreign residents, he told the Kuwaiti news agency KUNA.
"They will be transferred to the rehabilitation ward of a hospital designating for receiving those infected with the virus, to be discharged during the coming two days," the minister added.
