Cairo: Eight children had died in a massive fire that gutted a family house in Kuwait, local media reported Sunday.

Five other children were also rescued from the fire that had broke out Saturday inside the house in the Sabah Al Ahmad area in southern Kuwait.

The exact cause of the fire was not clear. However, an initial inspection showed that the blaze may be an act of arson, according to Kuwaiti daily Al Qabas.

Two domestic workers, who had escaped from the house at the time of the fire, are suspected of being behind the incident, the paper quoted security sources as saying. One housemaid, who is an Ethiopian, has been arrested for questioning, while the second is still on the run.
