Manama: Bahrain police on Saturday called for information that would help with the investigation of an explosion that targeted on-duty policemen.
“An explosion that targeted on-duty policemen occurred in Bani Jamra at 12:33am on Saturday,” Major-General Tareq Al Hassan, the public security chief, said. “The blast injured four policemen, including one officer who is in critical condition. The rest sustained serious wounds and burns. All were referred to the hospital for treatment,” he said.
Al Hassan said that following the blast, investigators responded to the scene and launched an immediate investigation.
“The bomb was found to be a homemade devise with a remote detonator. The flames and shrapnel from the explosion covered a wide area and were responsible for injuring the policemen,” he said.
Calls to the police to convey information will remain anonymous, the police said.
Bani Jamra is to the West of the capital Manama.
A similar attack last month in Al Eker, a village south of Manama, injured seven policemen.
The assault was widely condemned in Bahrain and by several countries.
