Dubai: Mosques will be re-opened across Bahrain for all prayers starting today, local media reported.

The decision came following  the recommendations of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and the National Medical taskforce for Combating the Coronavirus (COVD-19). It also followed consultations with the Sunni and Jaafari endowments, the Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments said.

However, the suspension of the Friday prayers has not been lifted, the ministry added.

The ministry stressed the importance of adhering to all precautionary measures, including not reopening the women’s section and not allowing children, the elderly and those with underlying health conditions, in order to ensure the safety of all and added that decisions would be subject to periodic review based on developments.

Congregational and Friday prayers were suspended in Bahrain on March 28 last year after mosques were shut to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus. Fajr prayers were allowed back in mosques on August 28, dhuhr on November 1 and asr on December 6. However, prayers and religious events at mosques were suspended on February 11 to protect the elderly in light of spiking infections. Physically-able Muslims are required to perform five prayers daily in mosques – fajr (dawn), dhuhr (noon), asr (afternoon), maghreb (sunset) and isha (evening).
