Cairo: Bahrain has decided to suspend classes in public and private schools as well as universities and kindergartens for three weeks starting next Sunday to limit the spread of the novel coronavirus. Remote learning will be relied on during the three weeks.
A state taskforce team in charge of tackling COVID-19 in the kingdom also announced suspending indoor services at restaurants and coffee shops for three weeks beginning January 31 for the same reason.
'The scale of abidance by all precautionary measures to limit the spread of COVID-19 will be taken into consideration to reopening or closing sectors depending on developments,' the team was quoted by the Bahraini media as saying.
The latest measures were taken after the mutated virus was discovered in a number of infection cases in the kingdom, the team added without giving specific figures.
The team urged people to keep indoors and not to go out unless it is necessary and avoid house gatherings or mixing with the elderly and those suffering from chronic diseases to shun potential transmission of contagion to them.
“Law will be strictly and firmly applied to any violator of precautionary measures,” chief of Public Security Lt. Gen. Tarek Bin Hassan said.
Bahrain so far has reported a tally of 101,116 virus cases and 371 related fatalities.
