Cairo: The Bahraini government has decided to expand an economic stimulus package to cover more categories of workers affected by the spread of the new coronavirus, the Bahraini news agency BNA has reported. A total of 1,497 virus cases including eight deaths have been recorded so far in Bahrain.
As part of the government’s plan to expand beneficiaries of the stimulus, a maximum monthly sum of 300 Bahraini dinars (Dh2,918) will be offered to 950 taxi and bus drivers for three months, the agency said.
The same amount will be paid also for three months to each of 829 driving trainers who do not have commercial registration or a pension.
The government, moreover, decided to pay the full salaries of 422 employees in the kindergartens and 102 others in nurseries who are not covered by insurance, BNA reported.
The assistance will be offered through financing programmes of the Labour Fund (Tamkeen).
The Bahraini government has recently unveiled a $ 11 billion stimulus package to aid the private sector in grappling with the fallout from the COVID-19.
