Bahraini woman held over threatening calls to embassies

Manama: A Bahraini woman made phone calls to three Gulf embassies warning them of terror attacks in their countries for failing to consider a slain Hezbollah commander a martyr, diplomatic sources on Friday told Gulf News.

"The embassies were also told to advise the leaders of their countries not to attend the Arab summit next month in Damascus if they wanted to avoid suicide attacks in their capitals," the sources said.

The caller also accused one of the embassies of active involvement in the killing of Hezbollah military mastermind Emad Mughnieh, who was killed in Damascus earlier this month.

A investigation launched by the interior ministry after alerts from the three Gulf embassies to the foreign ministry led to the arrest of the woman.

Her voice was matched with recordings kept at one of the embassies she called.

"The foreign ministry moved very quickly to ensure the safety of the embassy staff and urged the interior ministry to immediately track the caller."

The sources refuse to divulge the identity of the woman, but said that she was a older woman who belonged to a well-known family in Bahrain.
