Cairo: Bahrain and the US have agreed to extend the validity of tourist visas from five to 10 years, the Bahraini news agency reported Sunday .
Both countries have reached an agreement whereby the tourist visas granted to Bahraini and US citizens will be valid for 10 years, the agency quoted the Bahraini Foreign Ministry and the US embassy in Manama as saying in a joint statement.
The accord will take effect at a future date, the ministry said in a statement, lauding ties between the two countries.
“This agreement is a reflection of the long and rich history of mutual cooperation, partnership and friendship between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United States of America,” the Ministry said.
“Our governments and citizens have endeavoured side by side in academic, industrial, healthcare, business and social pursuits for over a century. This agreement will serve to broaden and enhance those pursuits," the statement added. Bahrain, a longtime US ally, is home to the US Navy's 5th Fleet.
