Bahrain mulls school surveillance cameras

Bahrain school surveillance cameras to boost safety, ministry says

Last updated:

Manama: Bahrain is mulling setting up surveillance cameras in its public schools following an increase in the attacks targeting learning institutions.

“A watchman or a guard cannot oversee the whole school or its walls on his own,” said Shaikh Hisham Bin Abdul Aziz Al Khalifa, the education ministry undersecretary for resources and services. “We believe that the best way to ensure security and safety is by setting up cameras that will monitor activities in and around the schools.”

According to the ministry, 57 schools have been targeted by fire or Molotov cocktail attacks since the beginning of the academic year in September.

Shaikh Hisham said that the occurrence of the attacks on schools for both boys and girls coincided with the incitement to violence.
