Cairo: Thirty-one members of one Bahraini family have contracted the new coronavirus by failing to abide by preventive measures against the highly contagious disease, the Health Ministry said.

"They have caught the virus for not following the instructions that moving out should be only for getting life's necessities while observing social distancing," the ministry said.

The infected persons from the family did not subject themselves to medical procedures after they showed symptoms of the ailment. They also mixed with relatives at gatherings resulting in transmitting infection, according to the ministry.

"The tally of infections in this case has reached 31 until now. Efforts continue to trace and reach all those who mixed with them," the ministry added, according to Bahraini newspaper Akhbar Al Khaleej.

The ministry urged people to abide by health precautions, limit Ramadan iftar get-togethers to small family gatherings, refrain from holding the traditional Ramadan councils and wear protective face masks when going outdoors as well as abide by social distancing rules.
