Dubai: A woman in China has been detained after she used her body to block the doors of a high-speed train, trying to delay its departure so her late-arriving friends could board.

In a video shared by the South China Morning Post, the woman is seen standing defiantly in the doorway, ignoring the pleas and physical attempts of two railway staff to move her. Calmly using her phone and waving to her friends, she prevented the bullet train from departing on schedule.

The incident, which took place on one of China’s famously punctual bullet trains, sparked outrage online. Despite the disruption, the train eventually departed and arrived at its destination on time.

However, authorities located the 45-year-old in Xiamen the next day and detained her for “interrupting train operations” — a serious violation under China’s stringent railway regulations.

Outrage online

Social media users slammed the woman’s actions, calling for penalties and labelling the move selfish. “There should be a penalty for this behaviour. That action wasted a lot of time for others,” one user wrote.

Another added, “If she gets away with it, others might try the same stunt.”

A third warned of the ripple effect such delays can cause: “The high-speed train is scheduled down to the second. A delay will trigger a series of delays on many other trains. Her behavior shows her level — she’s not ready to take a high-speed train yet.”

Others were more blunt: “I would have pulled her out. What a selfish act!”
