Karachi: A 28-year-old jobless man has committed suicide by jumping of the third floor of a famous shopping mall in Karachi in presence of the customers, retailers and staff of the mall.

The tragic incident happened at the Lucky One Mall on Rashid Minhas Road of Karachi. Videos were widely shared on social media of the incident, purportedly from closed-circuit television cameras of the shopping mall.

Those present inside Lucky One Mall were shell-shocked as the young man suddenly fell on the floor of the shopping centre.

The deceased, Zuhair Hussain, belonged to the Ancholi area of District Central of Karachi. According to bereaved family members, the deceased had been suffering from depression due to economic problems related to his joblessness.

He was under treatment for his psychological problems. Hussain had obtained BSc (honours) degree in Mathematics in first division.

His younger brother said the deceased had used to earn just Rs5,000 monthly through the internet.

Hussain had two brothers and a sister while his father had passed away over a decade back. His mother is a schoolteacher who is the main breadwinner.

Zafar Abbas, who heads the well-known Karachi-based charity JDC Foundation, rushed to the morgue where the body of the deceased was kept before burial to interact with the bereaved family members.

Abbas said it was very unfortunate that educated youth of the city had to die in such tragic circumstances only due to the fact that they did not find jobs.

He appealed to Prime Minister, Sindh Chief Minister, and Chief Justice of Pakistan to ensure that jobs were readily provided to the educated youth of Karachi without any hassle.
