Will help them to effectively deal with emergency and disaster situations

Karachi: The elite arm of Sindh Police will train the employees of the essential services departments of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) to make them ready to respond to any emergency situation or eventuality in the provincial capital.
A memorandum of understanding to this effect was signed between the Special Security Unit (SSU) of Sindh Police and KMC at the historical Frere Hall of Karachi.
The MoU was signed by City Wardens’ Director of KMC Raja Rustam and Superintendent of Police, Security and Emergency Services’ Division of Sindh Police, Abdullah Memon.
The employees of the KMC who works as City Wardens and also associated with its departments of Fire Brigade, Medical Services, and Municipal Services would be given training to prepare them on modern lines to deal with any civic catastrophe, eventuality, or emergency situation in the city. In the first phase, some 1,300 City Wardens will be given this training in different batches. The training sessions will last till October 15 this year.
Speaking on the occasion, Karachi’s Administrator Laeeq Ahmed expressed hope that the agreement between the Sindh Police and KMC would go a long way in enhancing the professional conduct and capabilities of the personnel of the city’s municipality who formed the emergency response team in Karachi.
He said the training would prepare the personnel of the essential services of the KMC to effectively provide emergency rescue and relief services to people in distress during any emergency situation including natural disasters.
He mentioned that the latest agreement was one step towards the goal to involve the civil society and other civic institutions in the efforts being made to improve Karachi.
He hoped that the cooperation between Sindh Police and city’s municipality would further expand and a system would be established to activate police and emergency staff of the KMC at the same time whenever the Karachi’s fire department or ‘15’ emergency helpline of the police received a phone call for coordinated rescue efforts to save precious lives and belongings of the people.
DIG, Security and Emergency Services Division of Sindh Police, Maqsood Ahmed said on the occasion that response time to react to any emergency call received at the Madadgar ‘15’ helpline of Sindh Police had been reduced from 30-40 minutes to just 10 minutes.
He assured the continuous support of Sindh Police to enable the KMC serve the people of Karachi in the best possible manner.
