Islamabad: Pakistan’s National Command & Operation Centre (NCOC) has announced to open walk-in vaccination for teachers aged 18 and above in order to ensure a safe environment for education and conduct of exams.
“Walk-in vaccination for teachers above 18 years of age is open. Teachers can walk-in to any vaccination centre with CNIC, stamped letter from head of Institution / Teachers’ ID Card and get themselves vaccinated,” says the NCOC on its official twitter account.
With regard to general public, the NCOC has decided to open up walk-in vaccination for people aged 30 and above from Saturday.
Minister for Planning, Development & Special Initiative Asad Umar who is also chairman of the NCOC in a tweet urged all the citizens above the age of 30 to get vaccinated by registering with the National Database Registration Authority (NADRA).
We don’t want to impose restriction during the upcoming Eid Al Adha, said the minister in a statement.
“In the NCOC meeting today it was decided to open up walk in vaccination for 30 plus from tomorrow. So if you are 30 or older and registered please go to any vaccination centre and get vaccinated,” Umar announced in his tweet on Friday.
Punjab targets vaccination of teachers before opening of schools
The Punjab government has targeted teachers and school staff for vaccination as the provincial government is also opening schools from June 7.
Punjab School Education Minister Murad Raas while speaking to the media alongside Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid inaugurated on Friday the first dedicated ‘Vaccination Centre for Teachers’ at the Government Pilot Higher Secondary School located on Wahdat Road in Lahore.
Raas said the vaccination centre would inoculate the teaching and non-teaching staff of both public and private schools, noting that there were 16,000 teachers and 4,000 non-teaching staff in Lahore.
“I request all teachers of public and private schools and non-teaching staff to get vaccinated before June 7 because we are going to open schools on June 7,” the minister said, adding that the provincial government would open similar vaccination centres in the nine divisional headquarters in order to inoculate the maximum number of teachers.
3.5 million vaccinated in Punjab
Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid said 3.5 million people had been vaccinated in Punjab so far since the drive started nearly two months ago.
She said the government was striving to vaccinate both teachers and non-teaching staff before opening of schools because it did not want the schools to be shut again because of teachers contracting the disease.
Positivity remains below 5 per cent
Pakistan on Friday again saw less than five per cent positivity rate. In the last 24 hours, the country’s tally of new cases was recorded at 2,482 while the single-day deaths were 67, according to the NCOC.
The country’s total number of cases after the latest additions has climbed to 913,784 while the death toll has reached 20,607.
