Dubai: In a tragic incident in Amroha district, Uttar Pradesh, India, a 32-year-old woman took her own life, unable to cope with the death of her beloved pet cat, NDTV reported.

The woman, identified as Pooja, was a divorced resident of Hasanpur living with her mother. The devastating sequence of events unfolded on Thursday, March 2025, when her cat passed away, plunging her into profound grief.

Pooja’s life had been marked by emotional turmoil. Eight years prior, she married a man from Delhi, but the couple separated after two years, leaving her shattered. Seeking solace, she adopted a cat, which became her steadfast companion in combating loneliness.

When the feline died, Pooja was inconsolable. Despite her mother’s suggestion to bury the animal, she refused, clinging to a desperate hope that it might miraculously revive. For over two days, she kept the cat’s body close, waiting for a sign of life that never came. Her family, including her mother, gently urged her to let go, but Pooja’s despair only deepened.

On Saturday, two days after the cat’s death, Pooja locked herself in a room on the third floor of her home. That night, at around 8pm, her concerned mother knocked to check on her. Receiving no response, she entered and was met with a devastating sight: Pooja had hanged herself from the ceiling fan, her lifeless cat lying nearby. Her mother’s screams alerted neighbours, who rushed to the scene and notified the police.

Authorities arrived swiftly, gathering forensic evidence as part of the ongoing investigation. Police confirmed that further investigation are in progress.
