Ten fire tenders are at the Calcutta medical college and hospital. No injuries have been reported. Smoke engulfed the building and many patients reportedly tried to jump out of the window to save themselves.
Kolkata: A fire broke out in the Calcutta Medical College and Hospital here on Wednesday, however, no one has been injured so far in the incident, a fire official said. Ten fire tenders were at the spot.
"The fire began in the ground floor of the medical college at around 7.58 a.m. The reason behind the blaze is yet to be ascertained," he added.

"All patients have been safely evacuated," the official said.
No casualty has been reported as of now and at least 250 people have been evacuated and are being moved to different blocks.

According to preliminary reports, the fire broke out at the Department of Pharmacy early on Wednesday morning.
Smoke engulfed the ground floor of the hospital’s main building where the dispensary is housed and many patients reportedly tried to jump out of the window to save themselves.
Local media footage shows few of them being taken out of the building with their saline drips. Few patients could also be seen lying on the floor waiting for help.
A disaster management team of the Kolkata Police, fire officials and senior officials are on the spot. A senior fire official said the fire has been brought under control.
