Thiruvananthapuram: For the first time, Kerala on Wednesday registered 301 new Covid positive cases, the highest number so far on a single day.

State Health Minister K.K. Shailaja informed that, of the new cases, 99 came from abroad, 95 were those who came from within the country, 90 were local infections, 3 health professionals and 14 defence personnel.

"At present there are 2,605 positive cases, while 3,561 have been cured. Today 107 people were cured of the disease. There are 1,85,546 people now in isolation at homes, corona care centres and includes 3,137 people in various hospitals," said Shailaja.

Of the 90 local infectees in the state capital city, 60 were from the district and the fishing hamlet of Poonthura had a good number of cases.

This resulted in the state government conducting a route march by a Commando unit to warn the local residents that if they come outdoors, they will be arrested.
