Patna: A groom in Bihar left for the wedding sitting on the shoulders of a villager as the path leading to the main road was full of mud following heavy rains.
Sidu Kumar, a resident of Puraina village in Buxur district, was excited about his marriage but his joy vanished after sudden rains on the eve of wedding left his village flooded.
With the only dirt road leading to the main road was full of mud and dirty water, the groom had no choice but to sit on the shoulders of a villager to board a waiting car near the main road, some 3km away.
Local TV grabs showed the groom perched on the shoulders of a youth who waded through the muddy pathway and negotiating flooded fields to finally reach the main road.
“This wedding day is extra special for me. I never thought that I would have to face such a problem during my marriage,” the groom told the local media.
The state witnessed a limited number of weddings owing to the month-long lockdown imposed by the state government to check spread of COVID-19 infections. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar himself made appeals to the people to postpone weddings till the situation gets normal.
COVID-19 has claimed 3,846 lives in the second wave, devastating many families.
