Dubai: A fighter aircraft on sale online? This week, someone in India, listed a Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-23BN aircraft, installed at the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), on an e-commerce website for a sale price of Rs10 crore (Dh4,910,078). While the internet is finding this funny, a probe has been ordered by the university to find out who was behind the online advertisement.

The advertisement on the OLX website showed a picture of the aircraft. And, the words “best fighter plane” were used as caption to describe the retired fighter jet, which was gifted to AMU by the Indian Air Force (IAF) in 2009.

After the information went viral on social media, the advertisement was taken down from the website.

Reportedly, officials have said that legal action will be taken against the people who created the fake advertisement.

The university authorities have alleged that the post on the website is fake and is an attempt to defame the institution. According to Indian media reports, yesterday, AMU proctor Mohammed Wasim Ali said: "The post on OLX about the sale of aircraft installed in the campus is wrong. University has not taken any step to auction or sell it. We are looking into the matter. It's an attempt to defame the university."
