A man was arrested after a dangerous and bizarre towing attempt on a busy Houston highway was caught on camera, shocking fellow drivers and prompting alarm over the stunt’s potential consequences.

Video footage shows a blue sedan being towed backwards at high speed along the North Loop, violently zigzagging with a visibly panicked man inside.

The vehicle was being pulled by a white SUV driven by his girlfriend — who appeared to be laughing during the dangerous ordeal.

Couple couldn't afford tow truck

According to Houston police, the incident happened Monday after the couple’s car broke down. Unable to afford a tow truck, 32-year-old Dontae Brown and his girlfriend used a chain to tow the sedan themselves.

Midway through their makeshift towing effort, the chain reportedly caused the sedan’s axle to break, leaving the car swerving uncontrollably across the highway.

‘Reckless and dangerous’

“It looked like something out of Fast & Furious,” said David Chairez, a generator deliveryman who witnessed the scene while merging onto the North Loop from Highway 290. “That was very reckless and very dangerous.”

Chairez filmed part of the chaos, capturing the sedan lurching across lanes and nearly hitting other vehicles. “She’s going to hit that door!” one of the men can be heard yelling. “What are you doing, stupid?”

He said the SUV’s driver seemed to be laughing during the tow, while the man in the swerving car appeared terrified. “This is not normal,” Chairez added. “No one was hurt, but the man inside definitely had a scare.”

Another witness, Ken Collins, said Brown was furious once the vehicles finally stopped. “He was yelling at the lady, hit his hood, and kept shouting, ‘You messed up my car!’” Collins told KHOU.

Houston police confirmed that Brown was arrested — but not for the towing stunt itself. He was taken into custody for an active warrant out of Georgia. No citations were issued in connection with the towing attempt, though officers noted it could be considered a violation for failing to maintain a single lane, among other infractions.

Viral video sparks outrage

The footage has since gone viral, sparking disbelief and criticism online. Many viewers condemned the couple’s reckless decision and called for stricter enforcement to prevent similar incidents.
