Keen on promoting the cultural aspirations of people and developing talent from various genres, the Dubai Art Lovers Association (Dala) will organise a Youth Festival on November 24 at the Gulf Model School from 8.00am until 6.00pm.
This year the festival coincides with Dala's 20th anniversary celebrations.
Some of the events which are scheduled in the programme are light and classical music, mappilappattu, mono act, folk and classical dance. But the most sought-after events are the drawing and painting competition, poetry recitation and elocution.
The festival, to be inaugurated by Asoke Kumar Mukherjee, Consul General of India, will be a confluence of diverse Indian cultural heritage. The president, Sudhakaran Nambiar, said around 1,800 students will be participating from various Indian schools in Dubai and the Northern Emirates.
Children are divided into three categories: Sub-juniors, juniors and seniors. Besides prizes and certificates to the winners and participants, one trophy each will be set aside for the best school and best student judged on the basis of performance in any of the items. All this will be distributed on the same evening at the venue.
Dubai Art Lovers Association has also instituted Kala Tilakam award for girls and Kala Pratibha award for boys given for their participation in various activities.
Dala has been involved in bringing a string of cultural programmes to the forefront.
, such as poetry evenings, Dances of India Festival, Onam celebrations, painting exhibition and the recent Kerala Day.
Sudhakaran said they would continue to initiate programmes for the public.
