The Department of Culture and Information is holding a workshop on library sciences under the title: "Library and Management and Information Systems."
The workshop began on Monday and ends today at the Sharjah Library in Al Mowaileh area, a spokesman from the department said yesterday.
Dr Shaaban Khalifa from Egypt is supervising the workshop, which aims to analyse the elements involved in the management of a library and enable trainees to acquire scientific skills of administering libraries and information establishments.
The workshop covers various subjects including the building and refurbishment of a library, quality control and performance assessment, budget and finance, job rules and description, library statistics and surveys, administrative organisation and the allocation of human resources. The workshop begins at 9am.
Meanwhile, the department organised a visit for the delegations participating in the Third Arab Youth Meeting to the Sharjah Library where they inspected its large and valuable collection of publications.
This was followed by a visit to the Sharjah Science Museum, Al Muntada Al Islami, Archaeological Museum and other sites in Sharjah.
