Workers get Dh6m in unpaid wages
Abu Dhabi: After more than a two-year wait following the disappearance of their company boss in 2004, about 1,300 workers finally received Dh6 million in unpaid wages yesterday.
Sitting outside the Abu Dhabi Sharia Court as hundreds of men poured into the car park from locations all over the UAE, Sher Khan, a spokesperson for the company, said, "This has been a long time coming. Today is a great day for these men."
In June 2004 the boss of the Bridges and Roads International Construction Company [BRICC] disappeared from the country leaving his workers unpaid and numerous contracts incomplete.
According to a lawyer representing the workers, the case has been particularly complicated due to the amount of money owed to numerous parties in the company.
