Dubai: Residents on Sunday woke up to a pleasant surprise as rain fell across various parts of the UAE.

One resident in Abu Dhabi posted a video of rainfall in the areas of Ghantoot and Al Samha, near Abu Dhabi, on the twitter account of @Storm_centre.

The National Centre of Metrology and Seismology (NCMS) also posted a video of rain on the Seih-Shoaib Road.

On Saturday night and into early Sunday morning, the NCMS recorded light rain over Al Maktoum International Airport in Dubai, Jebel Ali and in various parts of Abu Dhabi, including Seih-Shoaib, Seeh Al Sidra and Al Samha.

Weather forecasters at the NCMS expects the cloudy weather and rain to continue over the next two days, especially over the sea and coastal areas.

Moderate to strong winds will blow inland, causing dust to rise up and affect road visibility at times, especially over exposed areas.

“The relative humidity will increase during night and early morning over some southern areas. Sea will be rough in the Arabian Gulf and in Oman Sea,” said the NCMS.

On its Twitter account, the NCMS posted a map of the minimum temperatures recorded from midnight to 8am, which showed the top five coolest areas in the UAE, including Jais Mountain at 9.4 degrees Celsius, Mebreh Mountain at 12.2 degrees Celsius, Jebel Hafeet at 13.4 degrees Celsius, Al Jazeera at 14 degrees Celsius and Al Ghuwaifat at 14.6 degrees Celsius.

Northeasterly - Northwesterly winds will affected the coastal area, with a speed ranging from 14km/h - 30km/h, which may reach 40km/h over sea.

The will range from 16-29 degrees Celsius in coastal areas, while the mountain areas will have a minimum temperature of 11 degrees Celsius and a high of 21 degrees Celsius.
