Heavy rain hits cities in the emirates, with Umm Al Quwain receiving 6.4mm
Al Ain: Light to moderate rain hit different cities early Wednesday, making conditions more pleasant. The unsettled weather is expected to continue dominating much of the Arabian region.
Some 6.4 millimetres of rain was recorded in Umm Al Quwain on Wednesday, followed by Falaj Al Mulla (4.2mm), Manama area in Sharjah (1mm), and Al Hair in Al Ain (0.2mm), according to the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS).
Light to moderate showers also fell overnight in Dubai, Ajman, Jebel Ali and some other parts of Sharjah, along with a number of UAE islands in the Arabian Gulf. Dibba, Fujairah and Al Ain city also experienced some drizzle.
Fishermen warned
The sea is still rough, but forecasters expect a slight decrease in stormy conditions by Thursday night.
"It is still very rough and dangerous for small boats. We advise people refrain from going to sea until the conditions improve," he said.
According to the NCMS forecast, the weather will remain cloudy in general with chances of rain over some northern areas. Temperatures will also continue to fall and winds will blow at a moderate speed of 24 to 36 km/h. They may increase to 50 km/h in some areas.
Conditions are also expected to be partly cloudy on Friday in general, becoming cloudy at times over western areas and islands.
"Moderate winds will blow in general, freshening at times, with a chance of blowing dust over internal western areas, said the NCMS.
The maximum temperature Wednesday was 30 degrees Celsius in Fujairah, followed 28 degrees in Umm Al Quwain and Ras Al Khaimah, 27 degrees in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Sharjah and Ajman, and 26 degrees in Dubai. The minimum temperature fell to 15 degrees in some areas at night.
Forecasters said the conditions will be pleasant during the day and rather cold at night.
"The weather is still unsettled and outdoor activities must be planned in accordance with the forecast," he added.
Meanwhile, in Ras Al Khaimah strong winds and heavy rain lashed the northern parts on Tuesday, toppling several power poles and trees and damaging the asbestos ceilings of several houses and garages.
