Dubai: Another day of haze, sand and dust is expected to affect the UAE on Monday.

But there is still good news in store as the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) said there’s a “significant drop in temperatures.”

The weather will be dusty in general accompanied with moderate gusts of winds in general, but strong at times, freshening at times, as dust and sand will blow over exposed areas across the UAE.

The NCM issued a warning of a dust storm in the UAE that will continue until 2pm, and also cautioned residents about poor visibility that will to fall to less than 2,000 metres.

Dusty and hazy conditions are expected to last until the end of the week, although the level of visibility will improve by Monday evening. Temperatures will range from 26-40C in coastal areas, 25-42C in internal areas and 20-33C in the mountain region.

In its daily weather forecast, the NCM said that weather will continue to decline with another drop in temperature on Tuesday. Convective clouds will form over the eastern coast, leading to some isolated showers.

However, the weather on Wednesday will turn once again and rise by five to six degrees Celsius, with minimum temperatures reaching the low 30s.

On the second day of unstable weather, authorities warned motorists to exercise caution on the roads after a number of traffic accidents broke out across major highways and inner-city roads.

The sandstorm that swept across the cities on Sunday led to 418 minor traffic accidents in Dubai, and 16 in Sharjah, while fishermen in the two emirates reported damage to their vessels.

The traffic accidents, which mainly happened between 6am and 1pm, were caused by speeding, not leaving enough distance between other vehicles, and changing lanes without indicating, according to the Arabic daily Emarat Al Youm

On Monday, routes from Sharjah to Dubai were clogged with traffic as motorists tackled poor visibility on the roads.

Dubai Police also reported a traffic accident on Oud Metha Street, which added further delays to motorists’ commute.

A traffic accident was reported on Al Khail Road towards the direction of Shaikh Zayed Road, causing traffic jams in the area of Business Bay.

Traffic accidents were also reported near the intersection at Mall of the Emirates along Umm Suqeim Street, and more delays took place on Shaikh Zayed Road near Safa Park.
