NCM warns of reduced visibility, motorists advised to drive cautiously
Dubai: UAE residents, particularly people with dust allergies, are advised to stay indoors this afternoon due to a dust storm in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Late Monday morning, there was a sudden change in the weather, and by 12pm, strong winds had caused dust storms in various parts of the country. This has significantly reduced visibility on many roads, impacting motorists and pedestrians. For individuals suffering from dust allergies, it is advised to remain indoors.
According to the recent weather update from the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), fresh northwesterly winds are sweeping across the region, stirring up clouds of dust and sand. This phenomenon has significantly reduced horizontal visibility to below 3,000 metres in several internal and coastal areas. Residents should be mindful of these conditions, which are expected to persist until 6pm.
A severe dust storm was reported in Dubai Investment Park, Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, around 12.30pm.
Abu Dhabi Police have advised drivers to exercise caution on the roads, as dusty conditions hinder visibility. In a social media post, they urged residents to refrain from using their phones and taking videos of the weather while driving.
The National Centre of Meteorology has also delivered some good news —temperatures are set for a slight but welcome decline over the week, bringing a refreshing relief after a stifling heat wave.
In coastal areas today, brace for temperatures soaring to 44°C, accompanied by high humidity that will make it feel oppressive during the day.
With highs ranging from 42 to 46 degrees Celsius and lows dipping between 20 and 26 degrees Celsius, it’s vital to stay hydrated and take precautions against the heat.
As night approaches, winds will shift from the southeast to the northeast, remaining light to moderate. However, be prepared for occasional gusts that could whip up fine dust, with speeds reaching up to 40 km/h over the sea by late evening.
