UAE hits highest May temperature on record at 48.8°C

Abu Dhabi: On Thursday, the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) reported the highest recorded temperature for May in the UAE. The temperature reached a remarkable 48.8°C in the dry region of Sweihan, located in Al Ain, at exactly 12.45 pm.

Along the coast and on the islands, temperatures ranged between a muggy 39°C and 46°C. In the interior regions, the mercury climbed higher, hovering between 42°C and 47°C, with humidity levels climbing to 90 per cent.

Winds varied from light to moderate, occasionally intensifying to stir up clouds of dust during the heat of the day. Meanwhile, the waters of the Arabian Gulf remained slight to moderate at times, while the Oman Sea offered a slightly calmer surface.
