Dubai: Windy and dusty weather that has hit parts of the UAE is expected to continue on Thursday, with a chance of rain, the national weather centre said on Wednesday.

Residents’ social media posts over the past few days have blamed “sandstorms” for the poor visibility and urged safe driving, especially in Dubai and Sharjah.

A few weeks ago officials and doctors had urged people to stay indoors during a sandstorm that hit the UAE after travelling through Saudi Arabia.

The last few days have seen a repeat of somewhat similar weather, with residents complaining about the dust and wind. Later in the day in Dubai on Wednesday, the wind had dropped but there was still some haze in the air.

For Thursday, the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) said there was also the probability of mist or fog forming over inland areas, with a chance of rain over the eastern parts by morning.

It expected “moderate to fresh winds, [which would] subside gradually by night, causing some blowing dust during daytimes and reducing horizontal visibility at times”.

The NCMS added that the sea will be rough on Thursday, particularly during the daytime.

On Friday, temperatures are expected to rise slightly with light to moderate winds in general, according to the forecast.

“[The] sea will be moderate to slight in the Arabian Gulf and in [the] Oman Sea. The relative humidity will increase by night and early morning over some internal and coastal areas by night, and early morning.”
