Dubai: Thick, heavy fog blanketed various parts of the UAE on Tuesday, with the weather bureau recording low visibility to less than 100 metres on some roads. 


Flights arriving and departing from Dubai International Airport also faced a number of disruptions and delays due to the thick fog.  

The fog, according to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), started on Monday night in the northern and western areas, and is expected to continue until around 11am on Tuesday.  

The NCM said that Tuesday's fog was in line with the forecast that was issued by them earlier this week.


“The fog was expected to return today. It will also be affecting different parts of the UAE tomorrow morning. On Friday, it will be foggy, but it is not expected to be as heavy,” a spokesperson from the centre told Gulf News. Read more

The fog affected the northern emirates a lot more than in the western region and residents are urged to follow traffic rules and not use hazard lights while driving in the fog.

The level of humidity will increase on Tuesday night and into the early hours of Wednesday, with more chances of fog formation over the northern and eastern areas of the country.

The NCM also reported fog over Al Dhafra, Ajman, Dubai, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, with mist covering Khalifa College in Al Ain.

While the country continues to be overcast with fog, the NCMS said that the minimum temperatures is expected to range from 14C-19C in coastal areas, and 10C-16C in internal and mountain areas.   

However, the highest temperature in not expected to exceed 30C, with a range of 22C-27C along the coast, 24C-29C in internal areas and 15C-20C in the mountain region.

Moderate northwesterly-southwesterly winds will blow along the coast at a speed of 10-20km/h, and may reach up to 30km/h at times.

The NCM also posted a video of Mohammad Bin Zayed City at around 8am, and urged residents to drive carefully and follow traffic rules.
