Al Ain: Forecasters see no respite from the harsh weather in the next several days to come, adding that conditions will continue to be hot and hazy across the emirates.
The conditions have been intolerable, particularly in the desert areas, which have virtually disrupted normal life after the midday in the past several days. Towns such as Sweihan in Al Ain and Hamim in Ras Al Khaimah, are the hottest spots in the country with temperatures going beyond 49 degree Celsius.
The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) has recorded 49.7c in Sweihan and 49.1c in Hamim, 48.4c in Al Wathba, and 47.4c in Al Ain.
Heat cyclones
"These are the toughest conditions and we advise people to take necessary protective measures before going out," a forecaster said.
The country, he added, has started experiencing the impact of heat cyclones that develop in the Rub Al Khali (the Empty Quarter), a desert along the UAE and Saudi Arabian border.
Winds coming in from the south and southeast have been pushing the heat waves into the country.
"Clear skies and hot sunshine is also adding into the hot conditions," he added.
He also warned people to be aware of the seasonal increase in ultraviolet (UV) radiations. It is normally at its peak at around 12 noon.
According to the NCMS forecast, no change is expected in the hot and hazy conditions in the next 48 hours.
Some clouds will appear in the eastern parts of the country, but there are no possibilities of rain, the weather office said.
Yesterday, the maximum temperature in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain and Ajman was 45 degrees Celsius. It was a degree less (44) in Dubai, and 38 in Fujairah.
