A man who forged his bank statement to meet the financial requirements for a visa to Holland has been sentenced to three months in jail followed by deportation. According to Holland's visa rules, a bank statement must be submitted along with the application.
The defendant submitted a statement from Mashreqbank. While processing the application the consulate determined that the statement was a forgery. The police were notified and the defendant was arrested while visiting the bank.
The defendant, an employee of an air freight company, admitted that he had added some digits to his statement and stamped the changes using the bank's authentication seal.
He said he grabbed the seal and stamped the statement with it when the bank clerk handling the seal went away briefly.
