The UAE University has obtained a remote control software to enhance its computer-based teaching facility for more than 30 courses, benefiting some 1,100 students in different faculties.

The software, called 'NetOp School', is a powerful tool and used in classrooms and computer laboratories to enable teachers to monitor and assist students by remote control, said a spokesperson of Al Bannai Enterprises, a Dubai-based software solution providers.

The NetOp School also enables teachers to disseminate their own or students' work to the class, a task that would otherwise be performed manually.

The university is implementing a project to adopt latest methods of teaching and technology for the classroom. Under a laptop project, efforts are afoot to introduce and cultivate a digital environment at the UAEU.

She said the university has obtained 2,000 licences for the programme that has already been installed and is in operation. Some 75 faculty members of the university are using the software.

Dr Ali Rashed Al Noaimi, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the UAEU, said the institution has been endeavouring to develop the digital learning environment.

"Used along with other powerful tools in the pioneering laptop project of the university, the NetOp School provides online instructions in addition to assistance to students on their PC screens," he explained.

The spokesperson of Al Bannai Enterprises said the NetOp School is a family of cross-platform remote-control software products for PCs with allied applications from education to system support and e-computing.

Used in more than 50 countries, the NetOp School is a "popular" software solution for computer-based teaching, offering educators and corporate trainers a gamut of powerful tools for network classroom instruction.

The software is also used for holding interactive distance presentations, brainstorming sessions, and conferences, she added.
