A unique Heritage Exhibition is under way at Al Safa High School for boys from April 12 to 19. It is being held under the patronage of Sheikh Majid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Speaking to Gulf News, Salem Bu Samah, the school's principal said that the aim is to link the past with the present, in order to keep heritage alive, while at the same time making youngsters aware of the importance of preserving their heritage.

"Usually, we present activities under a particular subject heading each week. This helps widen the student's knowledge.

"The student committee has come up with the idea of a Heritage Week to be fitted in among these 'learning' weeks. This week is being held under the theme 'Who does not have a past, doesn't have a future'.

"We appreciate Sheikh Majid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for supporting this event. This has made the students work harder."

Bu Samah added that there are different activities taking place during this week, such as an exhibition of vintage cars, photographs, shopping, old dances and bands, folk tales, quizzes, traditional medical methods, a small camel farm, weapons used in the past, and old boats. Many well known poets from the UAE are taking part, as well as officials from Dubai Municipality.

"While this week was being organised I was pleasantly surprised to find that we have capable student leaders. They have shown excellent skills in organising the whole event, without any major problems," he said.
