Ras Al Khaimah: The municipality on Wednesday shut down and fined three restaurants for violating hygiene standards.

Mubarak Ali Al Shamsi, Director General of Ras Al Khaimah Municipality, said the restaurants are based in residential areas.

Al Shamsi said one of the restaurants has been grinding grain and rice in its toilet; inspectors seized huge quantities of rotten vegetables from another restaurant. Al Shamsi said the violators were caught and the outlets were fined and shut down. The restaurants employed workers who do not hold mandatory health cards, he said.

Al Shamsi said a grocery was closed for selling pan, betel quid, which is banned in the emirate.
