UAQ witnessing unprecedented development says official

A new water desalination facility is being built here, Sheikh Marwan bin Rashid Al Mualla, Chairman of Umm Al Qaiwain Lands and Property Department, announced recently.

The facility, using the reverse osmosis method of separating salt and other impurities from water, is part of Umm Al Quwain government's efforts to provide the emirate's people and its residents needed infrastructure and public services.

This is to keep pace with developments witnessed by other emirates, he said.

Sheikh Marwan stressed that the emirate is currently witnessing unprecedented developments in the industrial, investment and construction sectors, in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Rashid bin Ahmed Al Mualla, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Umm Al Quwain, and Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla, Umm Al Quwain Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler.

Sheikh Marwan added that the directives of the Ruler of Umm Al Quwain boosted the resolve of the authorities concerned in the implementation of water well desalination stations.

The emirate has signed a contract with M/S Matito, an international company specialised in this field, to supply water through a new utilities network and extend fresh water supplies to inland districts such as Al Salma, Ra'efa and Al Ramlah.

The station comprises five desalination units with a total capacity of 2.5 million gallons per day, Sheikh Marwan said.

The reverse osmosis desalination system is easy to operate, with minimal energy consumption and uses the latest technology.

Sheikh Marwan pointed out that a contract has been recently signed with a water drilling company to drill and develop 22 wells in Al Surra Area at a depth ranging from 200 to 230 feet to feed the new water desalination station.
