New York: The UAE will participate here on Monday in the three-day long United Nations' summit to review the poverty-reducing Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) endorsed by UN in 2000.
On this occasion, the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon launched recently a report prepared by an independent panel set up in 2007 to assess shortcoming of international community on fulfillment of the developmental humanitarian goals.
He called on world leaders on Saturday to reiterate their pledges of world partnership to boost development and tackle current economic problems. He attributed the economic crunch to be behind failure of advanced countries to meet their development pledges they made to help underdeveloped countries.
The UN Secretary General underlined that the world has to raise $20 billion for humanitarian aid this year. "The world could still meet the MDGs by 2015."
About 140 heads of States and government will take part in the event.
