Abu Dhabi: UAE embassies in European countries have helped 181 Emirati citizens stranded at airports due to travel disruption caused by Iceland's volcanic ash clouds.

Juma Al Junaibi, Director General of the Foreign Ministry, stressed the UAE’s care for all its citizens around the world.

"The foreign ministry is closely watching and is in constant contact with its embassies abroad to inquire about the safety of Emirati citizens affected by the travel disruption," he said.

He was reacting to some media reports which accused UAE embassies of negligence in helping UAE citizens stranded in European countries.

Al Junaibi said that the Emirati embassies have set up an operation room to follow the conditions of citizens and ease their return.

He added that 98 people in London were helped, along with 33 in Roma, 17 in Geneva, 8 in Vienna, 10 in Munich, 1 in Brussels, and 14 in Paris.
