Abu Dhabi: Thursday is the first day of Eid Al Fitr, as Wednesday was the last day of Ramadan, the UAE Moon Sighting Committee has announced.

The committee, headed by Dr. Hadef Jua'an Al Daheri, Minister of Justice, said that after a number of legitimate measures, as well as several contacts with neighbouring countries, it was established that Wednesday was the last day of Ramadan, and Thursday is the first day of Shawwal, marking the first day of Eid Al Fitr in the UAE.

Al Daheri and the committee members extended greetings to President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Their Highnesses Members of the Supreme Council and Rulers of the Emirates and Crown Princes, as well as the people of UAE and Muslims.

Saudi Arabia, Kuwait

Saudi Arabia and Kuwait have announced Eid Al Fitr will begin on Thursday, August 8.

Oman

Oman has announced the first day of Eid Al Fitr will be Friday, August 9.
