Young designer duo uses leather and porcelain to create innovative jewellery

Some people thrive on creativity, especially when it comes to creating things with the unique and wonderful.

Farah Gokal-Ghazzawi and Leena Al Sulaiman are two such designers who have created beautiful pieces of semi-precious jewellery with everyday artefacts like leather, suede, porcelain, wire and wood to name a few.

The two friends met not so long ago, and found out they had similar interests in modern jewellery. They noticed that there was nothing in between fine jewellery and costume jewellery that was available and felt a void that could be filled by designing trendy, wearable pieces for the young woman.

Leena, who is a jewellery designer by profession, was already selling her designs to various jewellers in Saudi Arabia and Dubai. Farah, on the other hand, taught herself how to mould objects into bracelets and necklaces. She loved the idea of making something with her hands. "I was wearing a bracelet that I made with leather and beads and Leena was admiring it. I told her I made it and it started from there," explains Farah.
