The victims were showing off and the driver was speeding, say police
Dubai/Khor Fakkan: A man and a woman were killed when their vehicle spun out of control and overturned during a drive in the desert in Dubai’s Al Warqa area, police told Gulf News.
The victims were showing off in Al Warqa area on Sunday evening and the driver was speeding, Dubai Police said.
According to Major General Mohammad Saif Al Zafein, Director of Dubai Police Traffic Department, a four-wheel-drive vehicle with four Emirati men and four women on board collided deep in a desert area in Al Warqa. Three of the women were of Arab origin while the fourth was Pakistani, according to Maj Gen Al Zafein.
He said the car was being driven by one of the Arab woman who was killed in the accident, while one of the men also died. The rest of the group sustained severe to minor injuries. Three of the injured passengers were admitted to Rashid hospital.
According to police, the two killed in the accident were residents of Khor Fakkan, and the man who died was identified as Al.M.S.B.
Police told Gulf News that the accident took place in the desert where families and youth gather at night to enjoy the good weather.
Maj Gen Al Zafein said seven similar accident took place in the same area and warned that police patrols will impound any cars found driving recklessly in the desert. “We impounded 430 vehicles and quad bikes from the same area in the last few weeks for reckless driving,” he said.
