Worst crash of the week

A Pakistani truck driver who was repairing his vehicle on the hard shoulder of Emirates Road near the Global Village was run over by a speeding pick-up driven by another Pakistani. The impact was so severe that the victim's body was cut in two.

Police said the pick-up driver entered the Emirates Road from a bridge and was driving on the road straddling the hard shoulder and the last lane to avoid the traffic. As a result of his speeding, he could not stop when he saw the truck driver on the hard shoulder and struck him. The driver claimed his brakes were not working.

Police have sent the vehicle for tests to verify the claim. Police said the pick-up was overloaded.
